Franz Müller’s Wire Spring (Franz Müllers Drahtfrühling) er smásaga skrifuð árið 1922 af þýska dAdA listamanninum Kurt Schwitters (1887-1948). Sagan var þýdd, sett upp sem leiksýning, og að lokum gerð að kvikmynd af myndlistarmanninum Roi Alter.

Saga Schwitters snýst um mann sem einfaldlega stendur í almenningsrými og með kyrrstöðu sinni veldur óeirðum sem leiða til byltingarinnar miklu. Maður þessi er Franz Müller og stendur hann sem tákn fyrir listina sjálfa, óhlýðni, óhagkvæmni, og fyrir Schwitters sjálfan sem var eini dAdA listamaður heimabæs síns Hanover. Schwitters var talinn skrítinn af samtímafólki sínu og var ekki með í félagi annarra dAdA listamanna síns tíma.

Núna nærri hundrað árum eftir fyrstu útgáfu Franz Müllers Drahtfrühling hefur sagan verið færð yfir á hvíta tjaldið og gerist hún inní svörtum kassa þar sem þrír leikendur ásamt skúlptúrum, munum og lágtæknilegum brellum endurupplifa viðburðina í Franz Müller’s Wire Spring þar sem byltinging mikla brýst út í frjálsu borginni Revon (raðhverfa á Hanover).

Roi Alter (IL, 1980) er myndlistarmaður, leikstjóri og þýðandi. Hann útskrifaðist með BFA gráðu úr Bezalel Academy for Art and Design í Jerúsalem og seinna með MFA gráðu úr Sandberg Institute í Amsterdam. Roi hefur tekið þátt í fjölda einka- og hópsýninga í Ísrael, Þýskalandi, Hollandi, Belgíu og Grikklandi.

Styrmir Örn Guðmundsson (IS, 1984) er myndlistar- og sögumaður. Í verkum sínum skiptir Styrmir iðulega um ham á milli þess að teikna, smíða hluti, fremja gjörninga og semja tónlist. Nýlega gaf Styrmir út sína fyrstu breiðskífu á vínil sem ber heitið ‘What Am I Doing With My Life?’ og er avant-garde hipp hopp plata unnin í samstarfi við Læknadeildina.

Anat Spiegel (NL/IL) er söngkona og tónskáld sem tileinkar sér ýmis form sviðslistar og rokktónlistar. Anat er lærð í djazzi, leiklist og klassískri tónlist og hefur skapað með sér einstakt raddsvið sem hún notfærir sér á fjölbreytilegan hátt í list sinni sem spannar allt frá dansi yfir í nútíma klassíska tónlist.

Daniel Rovai (FR, 1957) hefur unnið mestan hluta lífs síns með alþjóðlegum leikhópum sem ferðast um götur og vegi Evrópu og hafa sett upp leikverk á vinsælum götuleiklistarhátíðum. Daniel vinnur með hópum en skapar einnig einn síns liðs. Hann hefur leikið í mörgum kvikmyndum og semur tónlist. Daniel Rovai er sannur Evrópskur listamaður og leikari.

Franz Müller’s Wire Spring (Franz Müllers Drahtfrühling) is a short story composed by German dAdA artist Kurt Schwitters (1887-1948) in 1922. It was translated, adapted to theater, and later to film, by artist and translator Roi Alter.

Schwitters’s story revolves around a man who is simply standing there, and by doing so causes the outbreak of chaos that leads to the great glorious revolution. That man is Franz Müller, whose character comes to symbolize Art, Disobedience, Inefficiency, and in a way also Schwitters himself, who as the only dAdA artist in his home town of Hanover, was regarded a weirdo, and had no community of other dAdA artists where he could have blend in.

Almost a 100 years after the first publication of Franz Müllers Drahtfrühling, the story comes to life as a cinematic piece taking place in a theatrical black-box, where three performers, along with the different stage elements and low-tech special effects, re-enact and experience anew the events of Franz Müller’s Wire Spring and outbreak of the great glorious revolution in the free city Revon.

Starring in the movie are artist and performer Styrmir Örn Guðmundsson, musician and composer Anat Spiegel, and actor and clown Daniel Rovai.

Roi Alter (IL, 1980) is an artist, director and translator. He obtained his BFA from the Bezalel Academy for Art and Design, Jerusalem, and his MFA from the Sandberg Institute, Amsterdam. Alter participated in several solo and group exhibitions in Israel, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium and Greece.

Styrmir Örn Guðmundsson (IS, 1984) is an artist and storyteller. In his work he segues between the different artistic modes of drawing, sculpture, performance and music. Styrmir recently released his debut album ‘What Am I Doing With My Life?’, an avant-garde hip hop LP made in collaboration with the magnificent Medical Faculty.

Anat Spiegel (NL/ IL) is a vocalist, performer and composer dedicating her talent to cross-platform performance and Rock n’ roll. Trained in Jazz, theater and classical music, Anat established her unique vocal style in a wide range of performance practices: from dance- theater to contemporary classical music.

Daniel Rovai (FR, 1957). Having lived most of his life on the roads of Europe, touring with international theater groups, playing popular street theater festivals, in groups and with his solos, making films, creating his own musical formation, Daniel Rovai has become a truly European artist & actor.
