Borgar Magnason, kontrabassaleikari, Kristjana Stefánsdóttir söngkona og Jóel Pálsson, saxófónleikari hafa margt brallað á sinni músíkölsku vegferð, lifað og hrærst í djassi og frjálsum spuna, sinfónískri músík og poppi, búið til músík fyrir leikhús og bíó og guð má vita hvað. Þessir þrír meistarar deila sama afmælisdegi og hafa lengi ráðgert að halda saman hátíðartónleika af því tilefni. Og nú er komið að því. Veriði velkomin í 138 afmælið þeirra í Mengi í formi spunakenndrar óvissuferðar fimmtudagskvöldið 25. maí.

Borgar Magnason has worked closely with composers such as Eliott Carter, Georg Benjamin and rising star Nico Muhly (The Reader, 2008) pop-star Daníel Águst (Swallowed a Star), and with Icelandic super producer Valgeir Sigur?sson (Björk, Will Oldham, Coco Rosie) Of particular note is his work with Frost, an Australian/Icelandic composer.

Magnason has trained and performed with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, and the Juliard School of Music in New York City. He has also created several large works for the stage including Indeependance, a video Opera created in Italy with Vittorio Cosma, Mazbedos and the Italian poet Aldo Nove, and an award-winning collaboration with dancers from the Icelandic Dance Company Blink Of An Eye for which he won first prize in the Icelandic Dance/Theatre festival.

Kristjana Stefánsdóttir has been a leading lady for years in the Icelandic Jazz/Blues Scene. She has released several highly acclaimed albums, performs regularly with The Reykjavik Big Band and has collaborated with musicians such as Glen Hansard, Emiliana Torrini, Svavar Knútur, Ragga Gröndal, Monotown, Bubbi Mortens, Jónas Sig, Ómar Guðjóns, Sigurdur Flosason and many more. Her concerts have been recorded and broadcast for the National Radio in Iceland and other European Radio stations. Kristjana has given concerts in Europe, USA and Japan.

Lately she has done some crossover in her craft as a theatre performer, musical director, composer and writer.

Jóel Pálsson studied clarinet from age 8, but turned to the tenor saxophone and jazz studies at 15. After finishing music school in Iceland he enrolled Berklee College of Music in Boston from which he graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1994. He has performed in various concerts and festivals in Europe, USA, Canada and China and appeared on over

150 albums.

Jóel has recorded five CD’s with his own compositions. His music often mirrors his diversity as a performer, combining improvisation and written parts influenced by different musical styles such as church music, rock, free improvisation, funk and

folk music.

Jóel has been awarded six times at the Icelandic music awards for his albums, thereof five awards for Jazz album of the year. Joel was nominated for the Nordic Council Music prize in 2011 and 2016.

Jóel is a regular member of the Reykjavik Big Band and jazz group Annes.

Besides musical activities, Jóel is the founder and co-owner of Icelandic design label Farmers Market (www.farmersmarket.is), as well as running his own boutique record label Flugur.
