Magnús Jóhann is an Icelandic composer, record producer and keyboard player. He has pursued a diverse range of styles in his solo work as well as in his work as a session player and as a producer.
Magnús has for long time had a love for vintage instruments such as old synthesizers, keyboards and tape machines that initially got him into making music of his own in high school which eventually led to a career in music.

Magnús graduated from the Reykjavík College of Jazz, where he studied composition with Skúli Sverrisson along with jazz piano. Magnús was awarded 3rd place at the Icelandic Music Experiments in 2016, the same year he released his first album „Pronto“, a collection of ambient works and improvised pieces. „Bullboxer 43“, a track from the album was sampled by Icelandic rapper Birnir, resulting in the hit song, „Út Í Geim“. The sample made Magnús a successful session musician and producer that works with a wide range of artists in diverse styles of music. Magnús Jóhann has also worked as a film composer for feature films and short movies.

Currently Magnús is working on an album inspired by a photograph by his brother, Ingvar Högni Ragnarsson, a photographer and artist. On this album Magnús is joined by drummer Magnús Trygvason Eliassen (ADHD, Moses Hightower), saxophonist Tumi Árnason (Grísalappalísa, JFDR) and recording engineer Bergur Þórisson (Björk, Sigur Rós, Ólafur Arnalds). The music is a mix of slow rumbling electronic music and intense percussion with more melodic improvised side. The music has jazz roots with gut wrenching saxophone tones and soft pianos combining to form music that seeks to avoid being conformed to a specific genre. The album is to be released late 2019.
