Tónleikaröðin COWs samanstendur af þrennum tónleikum sem fara fram á vormisseri 2018 í Mengi. Á tónleikunum verður flutt tilraunakennd tónlist af ýmsum toga eftir tónskáldin Jennifer Walshe, Morton Feldman, Carolyn Chen auk fleiri.

Aðrir tónleikarnir í COWs-tónleikaröðinni fara fram 22. mars er verkið For Christian Wolff eftir Morton Feldman verður flutt í fyrsta sinn á Íslandi. Verkið er um tvær klukkustundir að lengd og um flutning sjá Berglind María Tómasdóttir flautuleikari og Mathias Halvorsen píanóleikari. 

Komið verður fyrir dýnum í rökkvuðu rýminu og er gestum velkomið að leggjast niður og njóta þannig hugleiðslukenndrar tónlistarinnar. 

Lokatónleikar raðarinnar fara fram 27. apríl en þá verða verk eftir Carolyn Chen flutt, af henni sjálfri, Berglindi Tómasdóttur, Erik DeLuca, Einari Torfa Einarssyni og fleirum. Nánari efnisskrá verður tilkynnt síðar.

COWs concert series consists of three concerts that will take place in Mengi in Spring 2018. The concerts include music by composers Jennifer Walshe, Morton Feldman, Carolyn Chen amongst others.

The second concert in this season’s series will take place on March 22, and features the Iceland premiere of For Christian Wolff (for flute and piano) by Morton Feldman performed by Berglind María Tómasdóttir and Mathias Halvorsen. Mats will be installed on the floor so the audience can enjoy a meditative moment while listening to the two-hour-long work.

The last concert will take place on April 27 and is dedicated to music by Carolyn Chen performed by the composer, Erik DeLuca, Einar Torfi Einarsson and others. More information TBA soon.

Um flytjendur / About the performers:

Berglind Tómasdóttir is a flutist and interdisciplinary artist living in Reykjavík, Iceland. In her work she frequently explores identity and archetypes, as well as music as a social phenomenon.
An advocate of new music, Berglind has worked with composers such as Anna Thorvaldsdottir, Peter Ablinger, Evan Ziporyn, Nicholas Deyoe, Clinton McCallum and Carolyn Chen, and received commissions from The Dark Music Days Festival and The National Flute Association. Her work has been featured at Reykjavík Arts Festival, Nordic Music Days, Cycle Music and Art Festival, MSPS New Music Festival (LA), REDCAT (CA) and CMMAS in Morelia, Mexico to name a few.
Berglind Tómasdóttir holds degrees in flute playing from Reykjavik College of Music and The Royal Danish Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and a DMA in contemporary music performance from University of California, San Diego. 
Berglind is an associate professor in contemporary music performance at the Iceland Academy of the Arts.

Mathias Halvorsen lives Reykjavik with his girlfriend and his little son. He performs regularly in lots of weird places, doing anything from chamber music and solo concerts to composition and exciting genre defying projects. From 2018 to 2020 Mathias is a member of the german fellowship program BeBeethoven. An overview over current projects can be found atwww.mathiashalvorsen.com 
He studied with prof. Jiri Hlinka (2006-2010) in Oslo and with prof. Gerald Fauth (2011 - 2013) in Leipzig. In 2008 he founded the Podium festival in Haugesund together with flutist Guro Pettersen. The festival was held for the 10th time in 2017. In 2009 he discovered the manuscript of piano concerto no. 5 by the Norwegian composer Halfdan Cleve at the National Library in Oslo and performed it with the Lithuania State Symphony and conductor Gintaras Rinkevicius. Since 2010 he has been performing concerts in complete darkness as a founding member of the critically acclaimed trio LightsOut.
The last years Mathias has performed regularly alongside Peaches in the duo show Peaches Christ Superstar. The production has visited many festivals such as Theater der Welt in Mannheim and Yoko Ono's Meltdown in London. He has also done several dance and theatre pieces with director and choreographer Laurent Chetouane. One of these, the comedy 'Den Stundesløse' featured Mathias' acting debut at the National Theatre in Oslo, Norway. 
In 2017 Mathias premiered his first opera Dracula, commissioned and performed by the Haugesund Chamber Opera. 
Recently Mathias has performed at festivals such as Brighton Festival, Mofo (Tazmania), Everybody's Spectacular (Reykjavik), Podium Festival Esslingen, Portland Chamber Music Festival and venues like the Münchner Kammerspiele, Onassis Cultural Centre (Athens), Queen Elizabeth Hall (Southbank Centre), Kampnagel (Hamburg) and La Commune (Paris).
