Fimmtudaginn 14. mars leikur Hilmar Jensson gítarleikari í Mengi.
Á efnisskránni verða eigin lög og annara í bland við það sem andinn blæs honum í brjóst.

Hilmar byrjaði að spila á gítar þegar hann var u.þ.b. sex ára og hóf tónlistarnám ellefu ára. Hann lauk námi við tónlistarskóla FÍH árið 1987, hlaut Bachelor gráðu við Berklee árið 1991 og hlaut einkakennslu frá Mick Goodrick, Jerry Bergonzi, Hal Crook og Joe Lovano. Hann hefur tekið upp og flutt tónlist um víðan völl og hefur komið fram á yfir 50 plötum, þar af 8 sem hljómsveitarstjóri. Hann hefur komið fram í 35 löndum með tríói sínu TYFT, AlasNoAxis (Jim Black), MadLove (Trevor Dunn), Mogil, Outhouse, BMX og mörgum öðrum. Hilmar einnig einn af stofnendnum listasamtakanna Kitchen Motors/Tilraunaeldhússins.

Hilmar Jensson hefur komið fram með alls kyns tónlistarfólki og má þar til að mynda nefna: Tim Berne, Andrew D’Angelo, Jim Black, Chris Speed, Skuli Sverrisson, Trevor Dunn, Herb Robertson, Eyvind Kang, Hank Roberts, Marc Ducret, Tom Rainey, Peter Evans, Ben Perowski, Jamie Saft, Ches Smith, Wadada Leo Smith, Arve Henriksen, Audun Kleive, Bugge Wesseltoft, Per Jörgensen, Per Oddvar Johansen, Anders Jormin og fleiri og fleiri.

Guitarist Hilmar Jensson will be giving a solo performance this Thursday at Mengi.

Hilmar first picked up the guitar at the age of six but started studying formally at age eleven. He graduated from FIH School of Music in 1987, got his bachelors degree from Berklee College of Music in 1991 and took private lessons with Mick Goodrick, Jerry Bergonzi, Hal Crook and Joe Lovano.
He has performed and recorded in a wide variety of settings and appeared on over 50 records including 8 as a leader or co-leader, he has also performed in 35 countries with his trio "TYFT", Jim Black’s AlasNoAxis, Trevor Dunn's MadLove, Mogil, Outhouse, BMX and many others.
Hilmar is also one the founders of Kitchen Motors, an Icelandic record label, think tank and art organization.
