Í tilefni af tuttugu ára starfsafmæli listhópsins PME-ART, samdi Jacob Wrén,annar stjórnenda hans, bókina „Authenticity is a Feeling: My Life in PME-ART“, en í henni er blandað saman sagnaritun, endurminningum og sviðslistakenningum með áhrifamiklum hætti. En bækur um sviðslistir geta sjaldan staðið einar og sér. Þegar fjallað er um sviðslistir verður auðvitað að setja eitthvað á svið. Þess vegna var tekin ákvörðun um að gera A User’s Guide toAuthenticity is a Feeling. Listamannaspjall sem snúið er á rönguna, gjörningur þar sem spurt er spurningarinnar: af hverju erum við að þessu, af hverju trúum við svona staðfastlega á hið viðkvæma en nauðsynlega ástand sem heitir „að vera maður sjálfur á leiksviðinu“ og hvernig höldum við áfram að halda í þá veiku vonað þetta veikburða samkrull listar og stjórnmála geti með einhverjum hættibreytt heiminum?

Sýningin fjallar einnig um viðbrögð samverkafólks PME-ART, í fortíð og nútíð; hverju fólk var sammála og hvað því fannst vera ósanngjarnt, en útkoman sýnir svo ekki verður um villst að samstarf verður aldrei annað en flókið fyrirbæri.

A User's guide to authenticity is a feeling:

To celebrate twenty years of PME-ART, co-artistic director Jacob Wren wrote a book entitled "Authenticity is a Feeling: My Life in PME-ART", a compelling hybrid of history, memoir and performance theory. But books about performance never feel like enough on their own. Addressing performance requires performance. Therefore we also created A User’s Guide to Authenticity is a Feeling. An artist talk turned inside out, a performance asking: why do we do it, why do we continue to believe so stubbornly in the fragile but essential act of “being yourself in a performance situation,” and how do we continue to hope against hope that our destabilizing tangle of art and politics might still, in some small way, change the world. The show also documents the reactions of PME-ART’s past and current collaborators. What they agreed with and what they found unfair, demonstrating that collaborative dynamics are always complex.
