MENGI is curating a generative site-specific music program at SOE KITCHEN 101. Composers Skúli Sverrisson and Ólöf Arnalds and invited musicians will perform a new piece that will evolve over 12 weeks.
Creating a score out of real-life situations every Thursday night, starting at 21:00, between one and three musicians will play a new set of music – partly composed, partly improvised – in the spirit of Mengi. Each performance will be recorded and then played back during the next performance, adding an additional track to the live music. The music will thus build up and become more complex over time, creating an ambiance that enhances the overall experience of the space.
The composition will be inspired by the sea and by dinner conversations, and will embrace the sounds generated in the context of dining at SOE KITCHEN 101 at the Marshall House in Reykjavík. On the last evening, everyone who participated in creating the score over the previous weeks will be present to perform the culminating music of the grand finale.
This event is happening in the restaurant space during dining hours and is free and open to the public. If you would like to dine, dinner reservations are encouraged, but walk-ins are also welcome. To make a reservation, call +354 519 7766 or email info@marshallrestaurant.is
All of the programmed events linked to SOE Kitchen 101 have been choreographed with input and participation from Marshall Restaurant + Bar, Institut für Raumexperimente, Gallery i8, Mengi, Listaháskóli Íslands, Kling & Bang, Nýlistasafnið (The Living Art Museum), and other local initiatives.
