Funi - Bára Grímsdóttir og Chris Foster

Bára Grímsdóttir og Chris Foster, hófu samstarf sitt árið 2001. Síðan hafa þau keppst við að blása lífi í íslenska þjóðlagatónlist sem hefur leynst í gömlum upptökum og lítt þekktum bókum og handritum, auk þess sem þau hafa bætt við nýjum lögum í þjóðlegum stíl. Flest laganna voru sungin án nokkurs undirleiks áður fyrr en FUNI bætir hljóðfæraleiknum við. Notar gítar, kantele auk gömlu íslensku hljóðfæranna, langspils og íslenskrar fiðlu. Þau flytja kvæðalög, tvísöngslög, sálma og enskar ballöður, útsetja allt sjálf og hafa haldið námskeið og komið fram á ýmsum hátíðum og tónleikum, einnig í útvarpi, hér heima og víða í Evrópu, Norður-Ameríku og Kína.

Wherligig - Ryan Koons og Niccolo Seligmann
Dúó útgáfa hljómsveitarinnar Wherligig samanstendur af Ryan Koons og Niccolo Seligmann, en hljómsveitin er upprunin í Maryland á austurströnd Bandaríkjana. Þeir spila þjóðlagatónlist frá löndum á borð við Írland, Skotland, England, Wales og Svíþjóð. Ryan Spilar á fiðlu, flautu og fleira. Niccolo spila á gamba víólu og bodhran trommu. Ást Wherligig á þjóðlagatónlist og sú ánægja sem felst í því á að spila saman sem fjölskylda gefur tónlist þeirra einstakan blæ. Chris og Bára hafa unnið saman hjá Common Ground on the Hill tónlistarskólanum í Westminster í Maryland. Þetta er í fyrsta skipti sem Niccolo kemur fram á Íslandi.

Bára and Chris started working together in 2001, breathing new life into great songs that have been hidden for too long in old recordings, little known books and manuscripts and they have also added new songs to the tradition. In the past, these songs were usually performed solo a capella. Now, FUNI adds accompaniments and vocal harmonies, using the traditional Icelandic langspil and fiðla, guitar and kantele, among other things, in a spell binding mix. Bára and Chris have performed and taught at festivals, concerts, summer schools and on radio and TV in China, Europe and the USA as well as throughout Iceland and Britain. They have released two widely acclaimed full length albums, Funi (2004) and Flúr (2013). They are currently working on their third full length album.

Wherligig - Ryan Koons and Niccolo Seligmann
Ryan Koons and Niccolo Seligmann are the duet version of Wherligig, a family traditional music group, based in Maryland on the east coast of the USA. They play music from Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales and Sweden. Ryan plays the fiddle, tin whistle, the Swedish nyckelharpa, Welsh crwth, plucked and bowed psalteries, and sings. Niccolo plays the viola da gamba and bodhran (Irish frame drum). Wherligig’s love of traditional music and culture and their joy in making music together as a family add a distinguishing quality to their performances. Chris and Bára have worked with Ryan over the past fifteen years at the Common Ground on the Hill traditional arts summer school in Westminster, Maryland. During that time they have become firm friends and are delighted to finally welcome him and Nicolo to come and play in Iceland.
