Rask presents a special live event in Mengi on the 25th of February! Live shows from the two wonderful electronic artists Hekla & Gígja Jónsdóttir, who both have defined their sounds with extended looping techniques.
HEKLA:
Hekla's emerges from no particular scene, ascribing to no particular rules. As a creative tool, the theremin - bizarre, unique, and rarely heard - can be expressive, intuitive and highly adaptable. In Hekla's hands, her instrument covers an enormous range, from skittering birdsong of high frequency chirrups and chirps, to grinding, tectonic sub-bass.
Gígja Jónsdóttir:
Gígja Jónsdóttir is an artist working in the fields of visual arts, performance/dance and music. In her music she uses violin, voice, live looping, noise and field recordings to create textural, fictional and fantasy-like environments.
Gígja graduated from the MFA program at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2018. In 2015-2016 she attended the Reykjavík School of Visual Arts and in 2013 she graduated from the Contemporary Dance Department of the Iceland University of the Arts.
Gígja has shown her work in various venues and festivals in Iceland, such as at the Reykjavík Art Museum, Reykjavík Dance Festival, LungA Art Festival, Harbinger gallery and Midpunkt. She is also a member of the techno violin duo GEIGEN along with Pétur Eggertsson.
