Tónlistarhátíðin New Music for Strings verður haldin á Íslandi annað árið í röð dagana 9.-15.ágúst 2019.

As part of the New Music for Strings Festival Iceland 2019, New Music for Strings is pleased to offer concerts for the second year in Mengi, one of Iceland’s most iconic artist-run venues and collaborative spaces. In this second of the two Mengi concerts, new chamber music with strings is featured along with two solo works. The concert will feature the music of Chen Yi, Mari Kimura, Eivind Buene, David Cutright, Dongruyl Lee, and Emmanuel Vukovich / John McDowell.

New Music for Strings is a unique festival worldwide that brings together string players and composers internationally to collaborate and study at the highest level. It is aimed primarily at exploring the space between string players and composers. Among NMFS’s artists are many Grammy and Pulitzer winners, as well as many faculty from top conservatories worldwide. Past festivals include Denmark 2016, New York 2017, Denmark & Iceland 2018, and in 2019, it occurs in Iceland & New York.

This year, the NMFS Festival Iceland occurs August 9-15 in venues around Reykjavík, featuring 4 concerts and many educational events. Music in each concert will evoke this year’s theme of “Scenes and Soundscapes” through cinematic narratives, exotic textural spaces, or abstract journeys of the imagination.

The festival is presented alongside that of partner organization, Harpa International Music Academy (HIMA). Other events are hosted by the Iceland Academy of the Arts with additional support from the Norðurljós Confucius Institute and many Nordic and North American partners.
